Christmas PDF accessibility wish list

20 December 2019 | Ted Page

Dear JAWS developers…

…please can we have the means to escape forms mode from within a checkbox in a PDF form? Currently we have to tab to a text field and escape that in order to exit forms mode.

Dear ZoomText Reader developers…

…please can we have automatic language detection so that multi-language documents can be accommodated?

Dear Acrobat developers…

…please can we have reflow view fixed so that it can correctly handle areas of background colour?

Dear Word developers…

…please can we have tables that generate the correct column and row span attributes for merged cells when exported to PDF?

Dear InDesign developers…

…please can you add Welsh, Gallic and Gaelic to the list of available languages in InDesign paragraph styles and character styles? Alternatively, converting paragraph styles’ and character styles’ language lists to combo boxes would do the trick.

Dear Read&Write Gold (PDF Aloud) developers…

…as with ZoomText Reader, please could we have automatic language detection and switching?

Dear Claro Read developers…

…please can Claro Read be configured to read the axes labels, legends and data values in charts and graphs, and any live text content of infographics (as long as we all promise, of course, to use vector graphics and not PNGs and JPEGs)?

Dear Illustrator developers…

…please can your graph tool automatically add data values to graphs and charts the way Excel does?

Dear Apple developers…

…please could you fix Apple products so that VoiceOver can read accessible PDFs properly?

Thanks.
